Post Off Your Broadband

The Post Office has been a mainstay of the British community for as long as any of us streamyx pop remember. While they may have their problems with postal strikes and the like, the GPO remains an institution looked upon fondly by many of us.

With the advent of the internet and email, one would think the Post Office would become almost obsolete, but that isn't the case. In fact, far from it. While the ordinary letter can now be sent via the internet, the soaring popularity of online shopping means that the GPO is inundated with parcels from all over the world every day.

And now, finally, the Post Office is realizing just what a commodity the internet is, and has jumped aboard. The familiar red and yellow logo can now be associated with broadband. And not just any broadband. The GPO has recognised something that so many other providers failed to; that not everybody can or wants to pay for their internet by direct debit.

Instead, Post Office customers can choose to pay for their broadband over the counter of their local branch - a tactic that is especially appealing to the 'silver surfers'; the over 50's who regularly use the net. Because many providers charge an extra High Speed Internet Access if a bill is paid by anything other than direct debit, the Post Office's way is a boon for those who don't trust money coming out of their account, or who prefer to pay for bills as and when they arrive rather than on the same day each month.

Providers such as TalkTalk, who only offer one vague payment date per month - anytime between the 24th and 27th - and who charge a 3.50 per bill fee for credit card or postal order payments, may do well to follow the Post Office's example.

As well as the convenient payment methods, the Post Office also has the advantage of being a subsidiary of BT, meaning the availability of the broadband service is an unrivaled 95%, compared to the average 60% for other providers.

The only downside of the GPO broadband service is the low download limit on the standard tariff. 5MB per month is enough for most light users, but a heavier user may need far more than this. It is possible to get a good deal with a larger download limit if you shop around and compare deals from different providers. Decide what you want from your broadband and make your comparisons.

Living in the Sticks is Easier With Satellite Internet

Henry David Thoreau might argue today that the whole point of moving into the middle of no where is broadband internet provider properly disconnect one's self from the corrupting powers of the modern world and developments such as satellite internet are completely counter productive to this goal. People Dsl Digital Subscriber Line live in very rural, secluded places can still choose to remain disconnected from the world, but for those who would like to take a broadband download speed test every now and then and keep in contact they have options.

Even if you are not living the Gambia, getting high speed internet access through DSL in the rural United States can be extremely difficult and sometimes not even possible. For residents of these scantily populated regions there is the option of satellite internet. Choosing to access the internet in this fashion tends to be on the more expensive side but it is fairly safe to say that rural dwellers are probably saving a whole lot more on rent and gas than city folk.

If you do have internet access but the only option is dial-up, looking into satellite internet broadband would still be a good idea in order to bolster your connection. With a dial-up connection already in place, the satellite access works to increase the amount of bandwidth you are working with, thereby increasing the speed and efficiency of your internet connection. The dial-up is used for the outgoing bandwidth while the satellite strengthens the incoming bandwidth. With these two powers combined you can get access to high speed internet even in the absence of DSL.

For people who are not used to high speed internet the delay of satellite internet might not be too wearisome, but for anyone making the transition it might be a bit on the difficult side. Individual home users will most likely want to try and find some form of dial-up and take the double sided approach of using both satellite and dial-up to gain access to the internet. People who are looking to transfer large files and use the internet for browsing yet have absolutely no access to dial-up will have to use two-way satellite access. The delay in two-way satellite access is frustrating but when you are truly in the middle of no where it is your only option for internet access.

Connecting to the internet is possible even if you live in the sticks of the United States, but if you are choosing to make a move out there, seriously consider how big a part the internet plays in your life. While satellite internet is a bit of a luxury when trekking through the Andes mountains, if that is your daily connection to the internet from home you need to be ok with a slow connection that runs the risk of encountering some serious interference if it decides to rain or a tree branch obstructs path between dish and satellite. While Thoreau would most likely opt out of internet access at his cabin on Walden Pond, for those who need to keep a lifeline between themselves and the outside world, they now have the choice.

Are you in a rural area with no access to DSL or cable internet service? Look into HughesNet. With HughesNet, you can connect at speeds as much as 50x faster than dial-up. Check out the great Hughes internet deals available now!

Based on what we're hearing, a slate of soon-to-be-proposed FCC rules may stop the likes of Comcast from discriminating against P2P applications on their networks, and AT&T sure will have a tougher time justifying why it won't let the iPhone's version of SlingPlayer run on 3G while giving WinMo and BlackBerry users all the bandwidth they can handle. Julius Genachowski, the new chairman of the entity, is slated to discuss the new rules on Monday, though he isn't expected to dig too deep into the minutiae. Essentially, the guidelines will "prevent wireless companies from blocking internet applications and prevent them from discriminating (or acting as gatekeepers) [against] web content and services." We know what you're thinking: "Huzzah!" And in general, that's probably the right reaction to have as a consumer, but one has to wonder how network quality for all will be affected if everyone is cut loose to, well, cut broadband company Oh, and if this forces telecoms to deploy more cell sites to handle the influx in traffic, you can rest assured that the bill will be passed on to you. Ain't nuthin' free, kids.

Who Invented Fireworks?

Many different countries lay claim to this wondrous feat but who really invented fireworks? Most people agree that High Speed Broadband first recorded instances occurred in China during the 9th century around the Song Dynasty due to the discovery of gunpowder. Historians tell the story of Broadband Deal Chinese cook working in the fields who happened to mix sulfur, which is flammable; charcoal, from burnt wood; and either potassium nitrate or saltpeter, which is a salt substitute. streamyx aztech cook noticed the combination had a flammable force when ignited and when this sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate mixture was enclosed and then lit, the dangerous combination exploded producing a loud bang.

Historians also credit Taoist monks in Far East Asia with being the ones who invented fireworks about 1000 years ago. Scientist monks were trying to discover a potion to grant eternal life and immortality, and during their research, discovered the flammable gunpowder mixture. Ancient Chinese used these loud explosive sounds to ward off ghosts and evil spirits, celebrate weddings, births, and birthdays, mark victories in battle, deaths, moon eclipses, and celebrate the New Year.

There has been a lot of media coverage and industry acclaim for the Verizon consumer broadband and digital television promotion act all digital fiber optic Internet service. The Verizon FiOS all digital fiber optic Internet, digital phone, and digital TV services are being called the new standard of quality for the telecommunications industry and are being praised by critics for bringing faster speeds and higher quality to services that most people use everyday. Industry insiders are praising Verizon for really raising the bar in the industry and encouraging the development of new technology to improve telecommunications and mass communications.

But why is the Verizon FiOS fiber optic network so amazing? Because Verizon has done something no company, and certainly no major communications carrier, has done before and has changed the technology that is used in the industry. Before Verizon built this new 100% fiber optic network the best materials available to build a spine for an entire communications system of phone service, TV adsl connection speed and Internet service was copper wires. These copper wires quickly were adopted by almost all of the companies in the industry and are still used today by both cable companies and satellite companies.

Verizon created the first network using cutting edge fiber optic cables to support its network, and that is what makes the FiOS network so extraordinary. Using fiber optic cables instead of copper wires changed the playing field of mass communications because fiber optics allows the network to move as much as 3 times faster than the maximum speed that is possible using copper wires. Plus, the fiber optic cables won't get clogged the way the copper wires can with thousands of users which means that sometimes users get dropped. The larger, more advanced fiber optic cables can accommodate a lot more data and a lot more traffic without failing.

Fiber optic cables also mean higher quality and better clarity. The picture on the FiOS digital TV service is much clearer than a regular TV picture. The voice clarity of calls made with Verizon digital phone service is astonishing, and the speed and reliability of the Verizon FiOS Internet service is something that both consumers and critics are praising. Soon satellite and cable companies will be forced to switch to a fiber optic network like the one that Verizon has built just to stay competitive because more and more customers that try the Verizon FiOS network are blown away by the quality of the FiOS network and don't want to go back to using cable or satellite.

Not only has Verizon managed to create industry history with the introduction of the 100% fiber optic FiOS network they have also managed to keep the cost to consumers competitive with cable and satellite. Who wouldn't want to sign up for the increased quality and reliability of the Verizon FiOS network when it costs about the same or in some cases less than regular cable or satellite services? Consumers are flocking to Verizon to sign up for digital TV, digital phone and digital Internet service on the first fiber optic network in the world, the Verizon FiOS network.
